~Our Mountain Home~

We are running with the ponies and lambs again,
Up here where we started out
Up here where the wind blows free and great birds sail
Up here
All along these blue and gold ridges of rolling cloud
Above the plain
Along the river
All above our mountain home.

The taste of the orchard is on our lips,
The gooseberries are ripe, the buckeye is in bloom.
The blue bells and poppies smile,
Along the diamond granite trail,
Laughing with the lupine, the red bud and the wild wild filaree.

I hear songs in the wind
Your voice in tune with the sparrow and the bee.

The meadow is ripe with skunk grass and frogs
Fat quail skirt the manzanita.

Beside the pearly stream I watch trout in a turquoise pool
And across the way
Young deer with you at play,
Beside the great trees of the quilted forest
Above the plain
Along the river
All above our mountain home

Once, not so long ago, you were born in the grace of love
And now, forever, love keeps your memory
Up here
Running with the ponies and lambs
Up here where we started out
Where there is no drought, there is no flood,
No frost, no fire
Up here
Where the wind blows free
All along these blue and gold ridges of rolling cloud
